Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s Monster Season 3 has yet to land on Netflix, but we’re already learning what we can expect from the fourth season of the popular anthology series. According to Nexus Point News, production for Monster Season 4 is set to begin this Fall, with that installment reportedly focusing on the infamous Lizzie Borden murders.
The Lizzie Borden murders refer to the infamous axe slayings of Andrew and Abby Borden that occurred in 1982 in Fall River, Massachusetts. Andrew was Lizzie’s father, and was found brutally murdered in the downstairs of their home, while his wife, and Lizzie’s stepmother, Abby, was found upstairs. Lizzie became the main suspect and was tried for the homicides, but was acquitted of the crimes by a jury (at the time, many believed a woman was not capable of the crimes). Though she was found not guilty, many thought she was responsible for the murders, on account of her reportedly attempting to purchase poison the day before Andrew and Abby were slain and burning a dress after the murders.

Whether it’s the Netflix series ‘Dahmer’ or the critically acclaimed movie ‘Downfall,’ humanizing evil is essential to understanding it.

Ryan Murphy’s Monster Anthology: A Killer Success
The Monster anthology series has proven to be a massive success for Netflix. In 2022, the series premiered with its inaugural season, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. Starring Evan Peters as the titular serial killer, the series rose to the top of Netflix’s streaming charts. Within 60 days, it surpassed 1 billion hours viewed, becoming the second English-language series in Netflix’s history to achieve the accomplishment. The series garnered significant critical acclaim and awards, including a Golden Globe for Peters’ complex portrayal of Jeffrey Dahmer and a Critics’ Choice Television Award for Niecy Nash.
The second season, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, was released in 2024 and continued the anthology’s successful run, topping Netflix’s most-watched TV list within days of its debut and gaining over a billion viewing minutes. The real-life titular characters, however, were not fans of the series.
Season 3, Monster: The Original Monster, is set to explore serial killer Ed Gein, who has served as the inspiration for iconic horror figures. Charlie Hunnam will lead the season as Gein with Laurie Metcalf co-starring as his mother, Augusta Gein. The season will also feature Tom Hollander as legendary filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock and Olivia Williams as Hitchcock’s wife, Alma Reville. While an exact release date for Season 3 has yet to be confirmed, it’s anticipated to arrive on the streamer in 2025 or 2026.
Given Monster‘s successful outings, we’re excited to see Murphy and Brennan’s take on Lizzie Borden, and to see how they navigate telling the tale of their first focal female Monster. Season 4 production is set to begin this fall. Casting is underway. Seasons 1 and 2 of Monster are available to stream on Netflix.
