Wake Forest baseball coach Tom Walter issued an apology on Tuesday after tv cameras caught an obvious homophobic slur throughout an NCAA regional loss to Tennessee on Monday evening.

Walter, who has coached the Demon Deacons since 2010, added that the “language does not mirror my values or the requirements of this program.”
Wake Forest athletic director John Currie stated he was “stunned and deeply upset” by the incident, which occurred throughout an 11-5 victory by the Volunteers to win the Knoxville Regional.
“I really feel badly for these most damage by such phrases,” Currie stated, per ESPN. “This incident … is totally out of character for him and doesn’t meet the requirements of Wake Forest Athletics, Wake Forest College or the Atlantic Coast Convention.”
Wake Forest completed its season with a 39-22 report. Walter, the 2023 ACC Coach of the Yr, has guided the staff to a 495-383-1 report.
