Russell Wilson faces deadline from NY Giants with Jaxson Dart oozing confidence – SportsNews

The New York Giants belong to Russell Wilson right now.

But Jaxson Dart was selected in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft for a reason, and Wilson was recently booed by WWE SummerSlam fans inside the New York Giants’ home of MetLife Stadium.

“It’s wrestling, you know that fan base — who cares who they boo?” Brandon London, Giants insider and former Super Bowl champ, exclusively told talkSPORT.

“Russell Wilson doesn’t cater to a WWE audience or fan base. He’s too clean cut. He’s too polished. So he’s absolutely somebody that they boo. Because even though he’s got the good-guy image, he would still be a villain when it comes to wrestling because … he doesn’t talk trash.”

While London joked about Wilson’s boo-filled interaction with passionate wrestling fans, he was serious in proclaiming that the former Seattle Seahawks star has already found a home in New York.

“No battle. There’s no competition,” London said.

“Russell Wilson has been named QB1. I think they did a great job of kind of announcing that before training camp got started, because you know how the New York media is — they would be asking question after question after a Russell Wilson interception or Jaxson Dart touchdown.

“So, first and foremost, great job by (general manager) Joe Schoen and (head coach) Brian Daboll, kind of putting that fire out.

“Let’s talk and start with Russell Wilson. He is the leader. He’s going to be a captain of this team, and he is going to be a huge reason, part or component, on if this team has success. I say ‘if,’ because every time you get all hyped and worked up about New York Giants football going into a season, the result is completely different than what we think about.”

Wilson, 36, is a 10-time Pro Bowler who won the Super Bowl with 2013 Seahawks and came one play away from winning the big game again.

But he’s recently bounced from Denver and Pittsburgh in unfulfilling short-term stays, and the rebuilding Giants are one big decision away from turning everything over to a rookie quarterback from Ole Miss.

London was adamant that the Giants belong to Wilson right now, and Dart remains a work in progress as Week 1 approaches.

“A lot of people are excited about this Jaxson Dart kid,” London said.

“I am, heck. I’m at these practices. I’m seeing this guy — this guy’s fearless. He’s got cojones. He’s going to try and make every throw. He’s going to try and fit every football into that small window.

“What he’s learning is that, yes, you could do that in the SEC. But this here is professional football and these guys are jumping these passes, they’re picking him off. And I’m not saying he’s doing a bad job by no means. Jaxson Dart is progressing and I believe that he is exactly where the Giants, Brian Daboll and this regime wants him to be.

“But at the end of the day … guys that have been here say Russell brings a different energy. Russell brings a different type of leadership that they’ve never seen before. Remember, Joe Schoen has said this team, this roster, was a quarterback away. Is he a Super Bowl winning quarterback? We will see. He has before. But with the Giants, can he do it?”

Wilson signed a team-friendly one-year, $10.5 million contract that could allow New York to move on without hesitation.

With veteran Jameis Winston and local hero Tommy DeVito also in the QB rotation — and Daboll and Schoen still facing questions about their futures — a slow start by the Giants could quickly lead to Dart.

NFL expert pinpoints the exact moment revealed when Sean Payton knew that Bo Nix was Broncos’ Russell Wilson replacement

New York finished an NFC-worst 3-14 last season, and the Giants face the Washington Commanders, Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, Denver Broncos and Philadelphia Eagles (twice) before Week 9.

London believes that Wilson will at least get a month to prove his worth to New York in 2025.

Then it could be Dart’s time.

“I say four to six games,” London said.

“And I give them four to six games because, let’s say they start 2-2 and they’re winning despite of Russell Wilson. Let’s say that defense is what we expect it to be, and Jaxson Dart is up to speed. Remember, this is real football here. I understand we live in this fantasy football lineup, where everyone thinks you could just plug-and-play, and put a quarterback in and go to someone right away.

“If you ain’t ready as a quarterback in the NFL, your head’s getting taken off. Your confidence is going down. So you kind of have to protect Jaxson Dart. You can’t just throw him in there if Russell Wilson has a two-interception game, or if they’re 3-3. So I think that leash is between four to six games.”

London also pushed back against WWE fans who appeared eager for Wilson to be benched.

“You show me a smart wrestling fan and I got a bridge in Brooklyn that I can sell you,” London joked.
