Original Design for ‘Captain America: Brave New World’s Main Villain Has Fans’ Heads Spinning

Nearly 20 years after making his MCU debut in The Incredible Hulk, Tim Blake Nelson reprised his role as Samuel Sterns in Captain America: Brave New World, this time in his villain form, The Leader. His role in the film has been subject to much discussion, primarily due to the extensive reshoots that saw his overall design radically modified from a comic-accurate interpretation of the material. Now, Marvel Studios has officially unveiled what Nelson would look like as his villainous alter ego in Brave New World, and it is destined to only further divide the fanbase.

The original design, made up of practical effects and make-up, of Nelson’s Leader was a far more comic-accurate version of the classic Hulk villain. However, for a movie like Captain America: Brave New World, which attempts to be a more “grounded” MCU film à la Winter Soldier, the massive forehead concept may not have been the right move. Fans still have some issues with the final look, which is more “tragic” than mind-blowing, but perhaps taking a look at the original design could put those complaints in a new perspective. Check out the images of The Leader below:

More to come.
