Netflix to Finally Debut Jason Statham & Vanessa Kirby’s 88% RT Rated Action Movie

While action movie icon Jason Statham as proven time and again that he is the ultimate one-man army, sometimes even The Transporter needs some help. And, in this 2019 action outing, that help comes in the form of an MCU star and a fellow action icon. And the epic team-up is coming to Netflix this weekend.

Directed by David Leitch from a script by Chris Morgan and Drew Pearce, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw takes place after the events of The Fate of the Furious and before the events of F9, following Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw and Dwayne Johnson Luke Hobbs, while introducing The Fantastic Four: First Steps star Vanessa Kirby as Hattie Shaw, an MI6 and Deckard’s sister, who proves to be equally as captivating as the original Fast and Furious family members. The trio must join forces to defeat Idris Elba’s Brixton “Black Superman” Lore using all the action skills at their disposal…including copious amounts of lively banter.

Because life is just cruel sometimes, Hobbs and Shaw has rarely been available to stream anywhere. But, thankfully, that’s all about to change, as the buddy action outing is all set to hit Netflix on August 16, 2025. In the meantime, you can check out the official synopsis for the Fast and Furious spin-off below.

“Brixton Lorr is a cybernetically enhanced soldier who possesses superhuman strength, a brilliant mind and a lethal pathogen that could wipe out half of the world’s population. It’s now up to hulking lawman Luke Hobbs and lawless operative Deckard Shaw to put aside their past differences and work together to prevent the seemingly indestructible Lorr from destroying humanity.”

Why Are We Still Waiting for ‘Hobbs & Shaw 2’?

Upon release, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw was met with somewhat mixed reviews from critics, landing a score of 67% on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences, however, were far more enamored with the action movie spin-off, awarding Hobbs & Shaw a score of 88% on the Popcornmeter. Thanks to the combined efforts of Johnson and Statham, Hobbs & Shaw also proved to be a smash hit at the box office, grossing over $760 million worldwide. With all this in mind, why has it taken so long for a sequel?

Hopefully we won’t be left waiting too much longer, as Hobbs & Shaw writer Chris Morgan recently revealed that he is currently writing “a Hobbs & Shaw kind of script.” Which we can only assume means he’s bringing the titular duo back for another adventure.

“It’s under lock and key. I can say that I’m working on a Hobbs & Shaw kind of script. So we’ll see where that goes, but I’m excited about it.”

While we await the arrival of Hobbs and Shaw 2, both Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson continue to cement their respective Hollywood legacies. The Stath is due to return for The Beekeeper 2, as well as leading the action flick Mutiny and joining forces with Angel Has Fallen director Ric Roman Waugh for a mysterious new thriller. Dwayne Johnson, meanwhile, hopes to stretch his dramatic muscles alongside his action ones in the upcoming sports biopic The Smashing Machine from director Benny Safdie and A24, while Vanessa Kirby will return to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday.
