A 39-year-old woman suspected in the attack has been taken into custody, according to the Hamburg police
Several people were injured in a knife attack at Hamburg’s central train station on Friday, according to local police. A 39-year-old woman was arrested at the scene.
The incident reportedly occurred at around 6:05pm on a platform just outside the station concourse near a waiting train.
Local media reported that at least 12 people were injured, although police have not yet given a figure. Some of the injured were being treated on board trains at the station, according to Bild.
“There are no confirmed figures yet on the number of injured,” Hamburg police said on X. “However, several individuals are reported to have sustained life-threatening injuries.”
Police said early findings suggest the suspect acted alone. The motive remains unclear.
A large-scale police operation is underway in the area. Authorities said an investigation into the circumstances was ongoing and that further details would be shared “shortly.”
Hamburg Central Station is one of the busiest railway hubs in Germany, handling more than 500,000 passengers daily. National rail operator Deutsche Bahn said train services would be disrupted due to the police operation, and warned of delays and partial cancellations.
The episode is the latest in a series of stabbing attacks reported in Germany this week.
