Leonardo DiCaprio Praises Robert De Niro as He Presents Him Honorary Palme d’Or at Cannes 2025: ‘He’s the Archetype…’


Leonardo DiCaprio handed over the honorary Palme d’Or to his pal and colleague, Robert De Niro, in the course of the opening ceremony of the Cannes Movie Pageant. Forward of presenting the trophy to the actor-director, the Titanic star gushed about his longtime collaborator.

Wearing a black tuxedo and taking middle stage, the Wolf of Wall Avenue actor paid tribute to the veteran star and claimed that individuals who know De Niro properly know that “he isn’t somebody who significantly enjoys the highlight off digicam.” 

Additional in his speech for the Taxi Driver star, DiCaprio went on to joke that he’s “fortunate” if he’ll get a “nod from him tonight and a half smile; I’ll take that as a standing ovation.”

De Niro and DiCaprio’s friendship dates again to the 90s, as they first labored collectively in This Boy’s Life, which was launched in 1993. Within the following years, the duo has collaborated on a number of tasks, together with Marvin’s Room, The Audition, and the most recent one, Killers of the Flower Moon. 

Furthermore, on the Cannes Movie Pageant stage, the Shutter Island star continued to say, “Each on occasion, even probably the most non-public giants deserve their second. A second to be acknowledged. Not only for their work, however for the quiet, lasting affect they’ve had on so many lives. On my life.”

He went on to state that De Niro has “at all times been the archetype” to him and so many actors of his technology. The film star added, “There’s no yet one more deserving of this Palme d’Or lifetime achievement award than Mr. Robert De Niro.” 

Because the actor-director walked up the stage to gather the souvenir from DiCaprio, the group erupted with claps and gave a standing ovation to the legend.
