Keira Knightley and Guy Pearce are joining forces for an upcoming psychological thriller from Netflix that will have you at the edge of your seat. When a journalist is not taken seriously after witnessing a serious crime aboard a yacht, an unrelenting pursuit of the truth sets her on a dangerous path. A new trailer unveils a tense thrill ride that poses more questions than answers, which will come to a head this October.
Netflix has released the first trailer for The Woman in Cabin 10. Directed by Simon Stone (The Dig), the footage reveals Knightley as Laura “Lo” Blacklock, a journalist searching for the sinister truth behind a body being thrown out into the sea in the middle of the night. Lo is determined to find answers, even though everyone around her doesn’t believe the incident even happened, as everyone on the yacht is accounted for. The film is set to stream on Netflix on October 10. You can check out the trailer below.
The Woman in Cabin 10 is based on Ruth Ware’s 2016 novel of the same name, adapted into a screenplay by Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse. Netflix has put together a stacked ensemble to bring the nail-biting thriller to life. In addition to Knightley and Pearce, the cast of The Woman in Cabin 10 features Hannah Waddingham, David Ajala, Art Malik, Kaya Scodelario, David Morrissey, Daniel Ings and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. The official plot synopsis:
While on board a luxury yacht for a travel assignment, a journalist – Lo (played by Knightley) – witnesses a passenger thrown overboard late at night, only to be told that it didn’t happen, as all passengers and crew are accounted for. Despite no one believing her, she continues to look for answers, putting her own life in danger.
‘The Woman in Cabin 10’ Will Make You Question Everything (Except for Keira Knightley)
Although it’s billed as a psychological thriller, don’t get it twisted — Keira Knightley’s Lo is not an unreliable narrator in The Woman in Cabin 10. Audiences will be on the hunt for the truth alongside Knightley, who reports a real crime that would otherwise go unnoticed. As Ruth Ware puts it, “the film is about a woman who experiences something wrong, reports it truthfully, and isn’t taken seriously because of who she is. Too many people know what that feels like and I think we want vindication for ourselves as much as Lo.”
In an interview with Collider, director Simon Stone revealed that he wanted Knightley’s protagonist to feel like the lead character from a “’70s paranoid thriller.” Like Dustin Hoffman, Robert Redford, and Gene Hackman before her, Knightley portrays a journalist that the audience never questions, and instead trusts to find out the truth behind the film’s central mystery.
“Lead female characters have had a bit of a bad rap. It’s always the woman whose sanity we’re doubting. I wanted Lo to feel more like the lead characters from ‘70s paranoid thrillers — Dustin Hoffman, Robert Redford, Gene Hackman in The Conversation. You never question them. You just believe they’re right. That’s what I wanted for Keira.”
The Woman in Cabin 10 will premiere on Netflix on October 10.
