Ja’Marr Chase might finally have claimed his spot at the top of the NFL wide receivers tier list.
He led all pass-catchers in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns last season, and it wasn’t particularly close.
That’s why, now that he’s become the highest-paid wide receiver the game has ever seen, he was asked to share his idea of the perfect wide receiver:
“I would use Tyreek Hill’s speed,” Chase said. “I’d use Megatron’s strength. I’d use Jerry Rice’s routes. I’d use Antonio Brown’s hands.”
That’s quite a group right there, and it’s hard to argue that it’s almost impossible to think of someone better.
Then again, knowing how confident he is in his game, he might firmly believe that he could be better than even that juggernaut of a player he just put together.
The Cincinnati Bengals are entering a crucial season, and head coach Zac Taylor could and should be on the hot seat after last year’s debacle.
They’ve gotten off to slow starts in every single year he’s been in charge of the team, and that has forced their hand to pull off some late-season heroics.
They fell just short of that last season, effectively wasting one of the greatest seasons by any quarterback and wide receiver in NFL history by not even making the playoffs.
Replicating that type of production will be easier said than done, especially if Joe Burrow doesn’t have to throw the ball as much to bring his team back from a deficit next season.
But if someone can do that and then some, it’s most definitely a player like Ja’Marr Chase.
