Shortly after Netflix announced that the series finale of Heartstopper would be turned into a movie titled Heartstopper: Forever, the cast and crew got to work and started production. Inspired by the sixth and final volume of the graphic novel series written by Alice Oseman, the upcoming film will center around fan-favorite couple Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and Nick Nelson (Kit Connor) as they try to navigate their long-distance relationship amid Nick starting college. Heartstopper: Forever will reportedly pick up where the season three finale left off, which saw Charlie slowly recovering from his eating disorder and Nick finally choosing his “dream school.”
Filming for the highly anticipated movie began in June 2025, and now the Heartstopper creator (who also returned to write the script for the film) has an exciting new update to share with fans. Recently on Instagram, Oseman posted a photo of a tree branch with the initials “N + C” surrounded by a heart carved into it. In the caption, they revealed that Heartstopper: Forever has officially wrapped filming and wrote a special message to fans of the series, which reads:
I’d never worked in a team in my career before working on the Heartstopper screen adaptation, and the Heartstopper shoots have shown me what magic can happen when so many creative minds come together. Heartstopper means the world to me, and it’s always been a little scary to put it into other people’s hands, but it’s been met with so much care and passion and dedication and love. I’m so thankful to everyone who has been a part of it… so far! Now we begin the edit!!!
Oseman wasn’t the only one to celebrate the end of filming Heartstopper: Forever. On his own Instagram Story, Conner posted a photo of himself and Locke sitting in Charlie’s bedroom. “Wrapped. Thank you for everything,” he captioned the post. Similarly, Locke also took to Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes photo of himself and his onscreen boyfriend standing at the bottom of an outdoor staircase. He wrote, “Bye Charlie x thank you
The ‘Heartstopper’ Movie Aims to Recapture the Same ‘Magic’ as the Netflix Series
So, what can fans expect from Heartstopper: Forever? Well, according to Oseman, the movie is going to bring all “the feels” like the beloved coming-of-age series has in previous seasons. While speaking with Netflix’s Tudum, the executive producer and creator revealed that the movie will give Nick and Charlie the ending they deserve, saying, “The movie will be an exploration of time, memory, love, pain, the changing of the seasons, endings and beginnings, and the core element of Heartstopper: the ordinary magic of our everyday lives.” Fans are dying to know what the future holds for the young couple. With Nick moving far from home and Charlie unsure of what their relationship will look like long-distance, it’s hard to predict what comes next for the lovebirds, but we’ll be tuning in. Be sure to mark your calendars because Heartstopper: Forever is coming to Netflix in 2026.
