Ohio Republican Max Miller ousted from Congress amid domestic abuse allegations
Despite Trump backing Miller, whom a House committee is investigating, Democrat Brian Poindexter will head to Congress
Max Miller was ousted from Congress amid domestic abuse allegations surrounding his divorce to Emily Moreno, the daughter Bernie Moreno, a Republican US senator.
Democrat Brian Poindexter will head to Congress next year after defeating Miller. Poindexter is an ironworker who has worked as an apprentice instructor at Ironworkers Local 17 and a union organizer. His father was a machinist and grandfather was unionized auto worker.
Miller married Moreno at Donald TrumpâÂÂs club in Bedminster, New Jersey, in 2022. She has alleged that Miller held a gun to her head and scalded her with boiling water. Moreno also alleged that their toddler daughter, who was born in 2023, suffered a broken collarbone due to MillerâÂÂs actions.
Miller denies allegations of abuse and has filed a defamation case against his wife over the claims. Moreno and Miller finalized their divorce in 2025.
Trump endorsed Miller in the closing days of the campaign, writing on Truth Social that âÂÂMax Miller has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Re-Election. GET OUT AND VOTE FOR MAX â HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!âÂÂ
In an August 2026 interview with CNNâÂÂs Jake Tapper, Miller accused three women, including his ex-wife, of lying about assault allegations against him.
In a campaign ad released in mid-October, Miller said: âÂÂDivorce is a painful reality for far too many families, and for two years, my familyâÂÂs heartbreak has made national news because that is the nature of politics.â He also claimed the allegations were âÂÂproven false time and againâÂÂ.
New York Magazine noted âÂÂthis is untrue,â writing that neither Miller nor anyone else were found at fault in the investigation of his daughterâÂÂs broken collarbone. The domestic assault allegations have not been formally investigated.
A House ethics committee is investigating Miller for domestic violence and drug use allegations.
Ahead of the deadline for Miller to drop out of the race in early August 2026, he faced calls to resign, including from Senator Moreno.
âÂÂIf there are any basic standards of character required to hold elected office, Max Miller fails them,â Moreno posted. âÂÂHe should not serve in the House of Representatives.âÂÂ
