NFL roundup: Panthers pile pain on slumping Eagles; Williams shines on Bears return
Injury-riddled Philadelphia fall to defeat
Chicago hold off Atlanta comeback in QBâÂÂs return
Browns upset Ravens in absence of Lamar Jackson
Carolina Panthers 25âÂÂ14 Philadelphia Eagles
Bryce Young threw for 281 yards and two touchdowns to Tommy Tremble, and Chuba Hubbard ran for 120 yards and a score to lead the Carolina Panthers (3-2) past the injury-riddled Philadelphia Eagles (2-4). The Panthers had little trouble in the second half picking apart the Eagles, who were missing quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley. Hurts is on injured reserve and will miss at least four games with a blood clot in his calf. Tanner McKee started for Philadelphia and finished 26 of 45 for 215 yards and a touchdown.
Chicago Bears 31âÂÂ23 Atlanta Falcons
Caleb Williams completed his first 12 passes in his return from a hamstring injury, DâÂÂAndre Swift ran for two touchdowns and the Chicago Bears (4-2) beat the Atlanta Falcons (2-4). The Bears led 31-7 before holding off AtlantaâÂÂs comeback attempt in the final quarter. Bears cornerback Kyler Gordon, who returned from a calf injury, had three sacks and two forced fumbles. GordonâÂÂs big day was capped by a sack of Michael Penix Jr and forced fumble with 2:54 remaining and the Bears protecting a 31-23 lead.
Baltimore Ravens 10âÂÂ13 Cleveland Browns
Deshaun Watson connected with Jerry Jeudy for 33 yards to set up Andre SzmytâÂÂs 37-yard field goal on the final snap, and the Cleveland Browns rallied past the Baltimore Ravens. ClevelandâÂÂs first-year coach, Todd Monken, picked up an improbable victory over the Ravens, for whom he spent the previous three seasons as offensive coordinator. Cleveland relied on their defense for long stretches and got just enough playmaking from Watson in the end. The Ravens had Tyler Huntley at quarterback for the second straight week because Lamar Jackson has an ankle injury. Baltimore scored on their first two possessions but did nothing from there. Both teams have 4-2 records.
New York Jets 19âÂÂ26 New England Patriots
Drake Maye tossed three touchdown passes and the New England Patriots extended their winning streak to three games. Maye completed 18 of 32 passes for â 235 yards. Romeo Doubs, â DeMario Douglas and âÂÂHunter Henry had New EnglandâÂÂs touchdown receptions, while Douglas caught seven passes for 86 yards. New YorkâÂÂs Geno Smith completed â 20 of 30 passes for 252 yards and a touchdown but was intercepted for the first time this season. The Jets (2-4) got four â field goals from Jason Sanders and a game-high 11 tackles (six solo) from Jamien Sherwood. Sanders âÂÂpulled the Jets within 26-19 by âÂÂkicking a 36-yard field âÂÂgoal with 32 seconds to play, but New England (4-2) recovered the onside kick.
Pittsburgh Steelers 26âÂÂ19 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (OT)
Aaron Rodgers threw touchdown passes in the fourth quarter and overtime and Chris Boswell made four field goals to lead â the Pittsburgh Steelers to a comeback overtime win. The Steelers (4-2) erased a 16-3 â fourth quarter deficit with â 16 unanswered points âÂÂin the period. The Bucs (1-5) tied the game at 19 with three seconds left on a 53-yard field goal by Chase McLaughlin. Rodgers led a 12-play, 70-yard drive, capped by a six-yard touchdown pass to Germie Bernard with 3:15 left in overtime. Jalon Daniels, who âÂÂmade his third consecutive start for the injured âÂÂBaker Mayfield, scrambled 10 âÂÂyards to Tampa BayâÂÂs own 37 for a first down on fourth- and-nine on the âÂÂBucsâ ensuing drive. Five plays later, Daniels was sacked on fourth down by Jalen Ramsey on a corner blitz to end the game.
Houston Texans 34âÂÂ31 Jacksonville Jaguars
KaâÂÂimi Fairbairn kicked a 49-yard field goal as time expired, CJ Stroud threw three touchdown passes and the Houston Texans beat the Jacksonville Jaguars on the slick grass of Wembley Stadium. Cam LittleâÂÂs 60-yard field goal had tied the game at 31-31 with just under two minutes left after Travis Hunter intercepted StroudâÂÂs pass in the end zone. Hunter also hauled in a seven-yard touchdown pass at the other end â becoming just the fifth player in the Super Bowl era, including the playoffs, to score a touchdown and intercept a pass in the same game. Marvin Harrison Jr made his debut for the 2-4 Texans as Houston earned back-to-back wins to gain ground on the AFC South-leading Jaguars (4-2).
New Orleans Saints 34âÂÂ27 New York Giants
Tyler Shough threw three touchdown passes and ran for a score, and the New Orleans Saints (2-4) scored 34 consecutive points, holding on to defeat the New York Giants (3-2-1) and end their three game-losing streak. Isaiah Stalbird forced a fumble on a kick return late in the first half that flipped the momentum in favor of the Saints. Giants fans streamed to the exits after Jameis Winston threw his second interception of the afternoon early in the fourth quarter, and the stands were half-empty by the time JJ McCarthy led multiple scoring drives and fell just short of an improbable comeback.
Tennessee Titans 26âÂÂ20 Indianapolis Colts
Joey Slye connected on a tie-breaking 49-yard field goal with 2:03 left on Sunday as the visiting Tennessee Titans upset â the Indianapolis Colts for their first win of the season. It was the third field goal of the game for Slye, â who added a â 44-yarder with 43 seconds âÂÂremaining after Tennessee (1-5) got a fourth-down stop. The comeback from a 13-point halftime deficit gave head coach Robert Saleh his first win â with the team. Cam Ward completed 11 of 22 passes for 102 yards with a touchdown and an interception for the Titans. Tennessee notched six sacks, âÂÂincluding two apiece by Jeffery Simmons and âÂÂJermaine Johnson II. Daniel Jones âÂÂhit 22 of 42 passes for 269 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions for âÂÂIndianapolis (2-4) while Jonathan Taylor ran for 94 yards on 21 carries.
