Ethiopians celebrate Meskel and call for peace amid fighting

Thousands of Ethiopian Orthodox Christians have celebrated Meskel, an annual festival commemorating the discovery of the ‘True Cross’ on which Christians believe Jesus was crucified. This year, worshippers are calling for peace amid renewed fighting in the country’s northern Tigray region.
