Eduardo Perez: Brewers' 'relentlessness' made them best team in baseball (1:23)

The Milwaukee Brewers captured their elusive first World Series title in club history Wednesday, and while the landmark victory changed bookmakers' perception of the team, the Crew will still be chasing the Los Angeles Dodgers for the 2027 title, according to the odds.

The Dodgers are favored to win next year's World Series with +310 odds, but the Brewers are not far behind at +500, followed by the New York Yankees at +700, per DraftKings lines.

That is the consensus top three across the sportsbook marketplace, but there is some discrepancy after that. DraftKings has the Boston Red Sox next at 11-1, followed by the Philadelphia Phillies and Seattle Mariners at 18-1. BetMGM and Caesars Sportsbook have the Atlanta Braves as their fourth team on the board, coming in at 13-1 and 16-1, respectively.

All the books have the Tampa Bay Rays outside the top six, with DraftKings posting them at 22-1. While that might seem long for the reigning American League champions, it's substantially better than the 80-1 World Series odds they came into the 2026 regular season with. Both Milwaukee and Tampa Bay built more respect from bookmakers through their magical postseason runs.

"The past few seasons, the Brewers' style of play and roster construction had not translated as well in October. We saw some early exits and difficult matchups against teams like the Dodgers," DraftKings director of sports operations Johnny Avello told ESPN over email. "After this postseason run, though, there is more confidence in Milwaukee's ability to win in October, and that is reflected in how we are approaching its outlook for next year."

Caesars' head of baseball, Eric Biggio, concurred, adding that the Brewers' head-to-head sweep of the Dodgers in the National League Championship Series "really cemented" their status as a championship-caliber team.

Milwaukee and Tampa Bay built their teams with payrolls in the bottom half of the league, but bookmakers continue to favor the teams in Los Angeles and New York due to the financial might they seem to throw around every offseason. A representative from BetMGM specifically pointed to the Dodgers' and Yankees' "current rosters/talent and ability to add additional talent in the offseason."

This could, of course, change with a contentious collective bargaining agreement negotiation expected to take place this offseason, but for now, bookmakers are sticking with what they've known about the modern era of major league baseball.

"At this point in the year, early World Series odds also account for what could happen during the offseason," Avello said. "We do not know exactly who either team will bring in, but [the Dodgers and Yankees] have a history of being aggressive when opportunities arise."

"Public perception, historical support in the market and, personally, I'd rank those two teams as favorites to win their respective leagues," Biggio noted.

Elsewhere, the Chicago White Sox, another one of the surprise success stories of the season, are 30-1 to win the 2027 World Series, according to DraftKings odds ... significantly better than the 500-1 they came into the 2026 campaign with.

On the other hand, the San Francisco Giants, who were expected to be dark horse contenders ahead of 2026, find themselves with 200-1 odds. The Colorado Rockies, once again, have the consensus longest odds to win the World Series, showing 500-1 at DraftKings.
