Bayern Munich â coach Vincent â Kompany was rushed to hospital on Friday after collapsing during a training session, the â German champions said.
The Belgian had been nursing a virus in recent days and had â missed some of his teamâÂÂs training sessions.
âÂÂOn Friday, Vincent Kompany required medical attention after collapsing during a training session for BayernâÂÂs reserve team,â the club âÂÂsaid. âÂÂThe head coach of the professional squad had been observing the second teamâÂÂs session.âÂÂ
âÂÂKompany is currently undergoing a thorough examination in the hospital and will remain under medical care. For the time being, his coaching staff â will manage all training and â match-related operations.âÂÂ
The Bundesliga leaders, who drew 2-2 at home against Arsenal in the Champions League earlier this week, are due â to travel to Freiburg on Sunday.
âÂÂVincent KompanyâÂÂs health is our top â priority,â said Max Eberl, BayernâÂÂs â board member for sport. âÂÂAt Bayern, we will do everything we can to ensure he makes a speedy recovery.âÂÂ
âÂÂVinnie is receiving âÂÂall the necessary medical care and support, and he will be given as much time âÂÂas âÂÂhe needs. Everyone at FC Bayern wishes Vinnie a quick recovery.âÂÂ
Kompany, a 40-year-old former Manchester City defender, had missed training and a news conference on Tuesday before the Arsenal game earlier this week.
âÂÂI caught a pretty nasty virus last week, and of course, I didnâÂÂt listen to my body â and then at some point my body just said, âÂÂenough is enough!'â Kompany said after the Arsenal game.
