Jaguars

Are Jaguars' self-inflicted wounds holding them back from true potential? Thirteen penalties, failing to score despite having the ball at the 1-yard line, dropping a touchdown pass, missing a PAT because of a bad snap ... it's hard to win any game making those self-inflicted mistakes, yet the Jaguars have managed to do it the past two weeks. This time it was against an Eagles team missing its top two offensive players. You can't win consistently living on the edge, though, especially when playing against some of the league's better teams in the coming weeks. The Jaguars weren't that sloppy in the first three weeks and had two blowout wins. It must stop or their success will.

Most surprising performance: Defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton was forced into duty as the long-snapper after Ross Matiscik suffered a shoulder injury on the Jaguars' first punt. Hamilton snapped the rest of the game and had an errant snap on a field goal attempt that holder Logan Cooke got down in time for Cam Little to make a 34-yarder. However, a high snap on a PAT with 3:20 remaining threw off the timing, and Little missed. Hamilton redeemed himself with a great snap on a 57-yard field goal with one second remaining that gave the Jaguars the win. -- Michael DiRocco

Next game: vs. Texans (Sunday, 9:30 a.m. ET in London)

Eagles

Is the defense ready to carry this team? It might not have a choice. The Eagles were working with primarily backups on the offensive line for most of the day and are dealing with injuries to a number of playmakers, including Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith and Tank Bigsby. Vic Fangio's group was the difference for most of the game, holding Trevor Lawrence and Jacksonville's offensive attack in check, including with a pair of goal-line stands. Jalen Carter (two strip sacks, three pressures, three tackles for loss, pass deflection) was the best player on the field for much of the day. The injury-riddled Eagles will need that kind of production from their star players to keep them afloat.

What to make of the QB performance: Jalen Hurts did well to help manufacture some offense with a depleted group in the first half. He went 5-of-7 against the blitz before the break -- a troubling issue last week against the Rams -- and hit Darius Cooper for a 61-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. The offense was stymied for most of the second half and was in jeopardy of being held scoreless after halftime for the third consecutive game. But Hurts moved the Eagles down the field late, setting up Jake Elliott's go-ahead 48-yarder with eight seconds remaining. It looked like the game winner before disaster struck on special teams. -- Tim McManus

Next game: vs. Panthers (Sunday, 1 p.m. ET)

Fantasy football takeaway: Jaguars WR Parker Washington's 30.4 fantasy points -- fully supported by high-level usage (84% route participation, 24% target share) -- reminded us that he can reach the fantasy WR1 tier when he's on the field with Lawrence. Washington is a fantastic trade target, as his Jaguars have one of the position's softest remaining schedules. -- Cockcroft
