Jack Reacher will soon return to screens in Prime Video’s hit series, but Alan Ritchson has a concern that the new season, based on the novel Gone Tomorrow, may have pushed one thing a little too far. In an interview with ScreenRant ahead of his new movie, Playdate, Ritchson shared his that Reacher Season 4’s excessive amount of fight scenes could be a turn-off for some people.
In Season 3 of Reacher, there was a lot made of Jack Reacher’s epic one-on-one fight with the man-mountain that is Paulie. It became the centerpiece of the season, but does that mean we have seen all the fights we need to see? Ritchson hopes not. He said:
“We shot… God, I don’t even know, man. 30? We’ve never shot this many fights. There’s so many. And it’s not just that we’re just going for the sake of it. I worry about fight fatigue for audiences. I watch my wife watch Game of Thrones, and I am yawning my way through it, and then the fights start. I’m like, ‘Now it’s getting good.’ The fights start, and she’s like, ‘Oh, wake me up when the fights are done.’ And I’m like, ‘What is that?’ I don’t ever want somebody to disengage because they’re just teeing up all the fights in the world thrown on screen. There’s got to be stakes and a reason. You got to be invested in feeling for these characters and the reason for what they’re fighting for, and I think we’ve done a really good job of that. We’ve set a record for the amount of fights that we’ve done this season, but all for good reason. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
‘Reacher’ Will Return in 2026
Currently, Reacher Season 4 has no release date, but with filming having started in the summer, and with the show’s track record, many fans would like to think that the show could follow its usual trend and be back on screens in just a few months’ time. However, in the same interview, Ritchson suggested that there could be a longer wait for this season. When asked about how filming is going, he said:
“We’re a week away [from wrapping]. It’s been a beast to wrestle to the ground, but man, this is by far the best season we’ve ever made. Very excited.”
Reacher has always been a winter release in the past. Season 1 debuted the series in February 2022, Season 2 became a huge hit in December 2023, and Season 3 debuted in February this year. If everything wraps up this week as Ritchson suggests, then a February release could still happen, as the series is not reliant on excessive special effects and CGI, which can often be the bugbear of post-production.
Whenever Reacher Season 4 arrives, Ritchson is setting it up to put past complaints about the show to bed. Although Season 1 was a huge winner all round, the second season received much more critical reviews from audiences, as did Season 3. However, the show still holds an incredible 96% Tomatometer score overall. It seems that no matter what happens with Season 4, we are going to be seeing more of Reacher in the future.
