The first trailer for Mother Mary, a new film starring Anne Hathaway as a fictional pop star with music crafted by Charli XCX, Jack Antonoff, and FKA twigs, has arrived.
Anne Hathaway stars as the titular Mother Mary, a pop star set to make a massive return to the stage. To help bolster her confidence, she pays a visit to her old friend (and ex-costume designer), Sam (Michaela Coel). She asks Sam to make a special dress for her comeback performance, but the task is fraught and their relationship remains strained. Eventually, the creation of Mother Mary’s red dress arrives in tandem with something of a seance. “You think there’s something inside you?” Sam asks Mother Mary in the trailer, “Let’s cast her out together.” Watch the dramatic, eerie trailer below.
The official logline for Mother Mary reads: “Long-buried wounds rise to the surface when iconic pop star Mother Mary (Anne Hathaway) reunites with her estranged best friend and former costume designer Sam Anselm (Michaela Coel) on the eve of her comeback performance.”
