Netflix has shared the Season 2 trailer for their hit video game adaptation, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. MCU alum Hayley Atwell voices the titular treasure hunter in the animated series, which heavily adapts from the “Survivor Trilogy” of Tomb Raider games, which kicked off in 2013. The series helps fill in the story, highlighting Lara Croft’s journey to become the skilled adventurer she is known for.
The Season 2 trailer for The Legend of Lara Croft gets right to the stakes, showing off a new relic and a potentially horrific outcome from Lara’s actions. As with many iterations of Tomb Raider, there are mystical elements at play, but it takes time to add series hallmarks, like Lara swimming for treasures in a sunken ship in shark-infested waters. There is no shortage of action as Lara journeys through unique locales in a battle against Mila, who could cause untold horrors. With Lara facing the most significant stakes of her life, she is poised to be a hero or condemn the world to an ugly fate. The Season 2 synopsis for Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft reads:
“Lara’s thrilling new adventure takes her around the globe as she delves deeper into the hidden secrets of Orisha history, dodging the machinations of a dangerous and enigmatic billionaire who wants the masks for herself, while discovering these relics contain dark secrets and a power that defies logic,” according to the official plot synopsis. “Power that may, in fact, be divine.”
The first season of Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft aired eight half-hour episodes in late 2024, with a second season announced around the same time. The trailer is now giving fans their best look yet at what to expect in the new season, with Lara teaming up alongside her friend Sam Nishimura, voiced by Karen Fukuhara. Netflix will debut the new season on December 11, when audiences can binge all episodes.
Will ‘Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft’ get a third season?
\When Netflix gave Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft the green light, the initial order was for two seasons. When the first season debuted in 2024, and plans for Season 2 were announced, fans were also informed that it would be the final season. While most audiences hoped for a third season, Netflix chose to stick with the two-season order. The streamer is also testing the waters with other video game-themed shows, as it recently debuted Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, an animated series following the exploits of super-spy Sam Fisher.
Despite not having a third season in its future, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft isn’t holding back in its second season. Aside from Atwell and Fukuhara, the show is bringing back other characters and cast members, including Allen Maldonado as Zip and Earl Baylon as Jonah Maiava. Critics enjoyed the first season, giving it a refreshing 73% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, audiences didn’t find the adaptation agreeable, giving it a dismal 33%, which may have been a motivating factor in Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft not getting a third season.
