US House votes to end government shutdown

Six Democrats joined Republicans to ensure the funding of federal agencies on Wednesday

The US House of Representatives has approved a bill to fund the government through January 30, 2026, paving the way to end the longest government shutdown in the nation’s history.

According to ReadNOW, the bill passed 222–209, with six Democrats joining Republicans, who hold a slim majority in the chamber. Two Republicans voted against the measure. President Donald Trump is expected to sign the bill on Wednesday night.

The federal government entered a shutdown on October 1 over a dispute concerning health tax credits under the Affordable Care Act, which Democrats sought to extend into next year.
