Happy Monday!
There’s lots to look forward to this week, including a London exhibition from Korean conceptual artist Do Ho Suh, Portugal’s ‘Music Now! Musica Nostra’ conference, and the worldwide release of Marvel’s Thunderbolts*.
If you’re still reeling from that episode of The Last of Us, check out our recap — we’ll be sharing these culture catch-ups every week for a more in-depth look at exhibition, film, TV and music highlights.
Here are this week’s recommendations.
Exhibitions
The Genesis Exhibition: Do Ho Suh: Walk The House
Where: Tate Modern (London, UK)
When: 1 May – 19 October 2025
For Korean-born artist Do Ho Suh, home is where the concept is. Through a series of large-scale, colour-prism installations, visitors are invited to wander the passages between space and place, mind and body, collectivism and individualism.
Over the course of three decades, Do Ho Suh has become a unique and pioneering voice within contemporary art; best-known for his architectural-themed works. Many are on display here, including sculptures of famous monuments and new site-specific works. Bold and dreamlike, they remind us that home is an endlessly shapeshifting thing; a feeling and an idea with a constant pull.
Caravaggio 2025
Where: Palazzo Barberini (Rome, Italy)
When: Until 6 July2025
In celebration of the Catholic Church’s Jubilee year, Rome is hosting one of its most extensive Caravaggio exhibitions yet. Much about the 16th-century Italian painter, famed for his dramatic realism and distinct chiaroscuro-style, remains shrouded in mystery. This rare display of 24 works satiates that fascination, including Museo del Prado’s ‘Ecce Homo’ and ‘Portrait of Monsignor Maffeo Barberini’, which only recently made its public debut. Find out more about it here.
Events
‘Music Now! Musica Nostra’ Conference
Where: Mafra National Palace, Portugal
When: 29 – 30 April 2025
In times of trouble, music has always had the ability to connect, empower and inspire us. The ‘Music Now! Musica Nostra!’ event harnesses this, organised by the Centre Européen de Musique (CEM) and the European Heritage Hub in collaboration with affiliate partners. Bringing together world-class musicians, politicians and cultural figureheads, it aims to bring greater recognition to music’s cultural, historical and global impact — and encourage its use as a tool for meaningful change.
In an official statement, Jorge Chaminé, President Founder of the CEM, an affiliated partner of the European Heritage Hub project, said: “Music and heritage are the cornerstone of European identity. Music is the soul of Europe and the bridge between tangible and intangible heritage. It is our common breath, our shared heartbeat, the rhythm of our unity in diversity. We need it now more than ever.”
Làctium Cheese Festival
Where: Catalunya, Spain
When: 3 – 4 May 2025
Grate news! Catalunya’s biggest cheese market is returning for another weekend of artisan dairy delights. This year’s event will feature more than 200 cheeses from across Spain, putting local cheese makers and sustainable practices in the spotlight. But eating isn’t the only thing on the menu — there are also cheese making workshops, wine tastings, industry talks, and an opportunity to immerse yourself in the location’s rich cultural heritage. It’s basically one big party for cheese enthusiasts — what could brie better?
Movies
The Shrouds
Where: French cinemas
When: 30 April 2025
Few filmmakers have so boldly redefined cinema like David Cronenberg. From Shivers to The Fly, Videodrome and Crimes of the Future, his oeuvre oozes with sexual, medical and technological anxieties that helped establish an entire (and currently resurgent) genre: Body horror. His latest film, however, is perhaps his most personal yet — inspired by the grief of losing his wife, Carolyn. The Shrouds, which premiered at Cannes last year, follows a widower named Karsh (Vincent Cassel) who creates GraveTech, a machine that allows people to watch the bodies of their buried loved ones gradually decompose.
Thunderbolts*
Where: European cinemas
When: 2 May 2025
Following the disappointing (and controversial) Captain America: Brave New World, can a new team of mysteriously asterisked anti-superheroes save the MCU? With an ensemble cast that includes Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Sebastian Stan and Harrison Ford — it seems possible! As always, there’s a layer of crossover lore to get lost in, but for the casual viewer, all you need to know is that the Thunderbolts — originally conceptualised as a gang of supervillains posing as heroes — are sent on a mission that goes wrong, forcing them to confront and resolve their dark pasts.
Television
You
Where: Netflix
When: Streaming now
Watch out ladies, “nice guy” psychopath Joe (Penn Badgley) is back on the loose — but thankfully for the final time. After years of stalking, caging and killing women, Joe is doing pretty good — back in New York, wealthy and seemingly happily married. That is until some journalists start digging around in his wife’s (Charlotte Ritchie) past, putting their carefully constructed identities at risk. It’s a very silly show with a concerning confused tone, but also addictively entertaining when not taken too seriously. Just try not to cringe at every repeated mention of “you”.
Music
Model/Actriz: Pirouette
When: 2 May 2025
Formed in 2016, New York post-punk band Model/Actriz found mainstream attention with their 2023 debut album ‘Dogsbody’ — and continue to carve out a unique space within the punk rock scene. Their sound, characterised by grunge-steeped glamour and thrumming theatrics, cuts with the kind of antsy energy that bleeds both anxiety and excitement; fuelled by themes of desire, identity and queerness. For every little boy that’s ever dreamed of having a princess party, lead singer Cole Haden gets you.
